Centro Studi di Riabilitazione Neurocognitiva “Villa Miari”

Centro Studi di Riabilitazione Neurocognitiva “Villa Miari” is the result of the association of two public entities: the Local Health Unity [in Italian, ULSS] 4 “Alto Vicentino”, (currently known as AULSS 7 “Pedemontana”), and the Commune di Santorso (County of Santorso), housed at “Villa Miari”.

The Centro Studi has a component of clinical rehabilitation organized by the Azienda Sanitaria (Department of Health), a scientific research and education components organized by the Istituzione Communale “Villa Miari” (County of Santorso).

The Centro Studi is launched in February of 2002, under the Scientific Direction of Prof. Dr. Carlo Perfetti, whose goal was to safeguard, develop, deepen and disseminate the Neurocognitive Theory (TNC). Following Prof. Perfetti’s retirement at the end of 2008, the ULSS 4 has the clinical rehabilitation activity reorganized by rule of the Director General n.799/2009, and placed the Unità Operativa Sanitaria (UOS) of neurocognitive rehabilitation at Dipartimento di Riabilitazione Aziendale.

The UOS accommodates patients previously hospitalized in rehab facilities (codes 56 or 28), or patients admitted to different wards who, due to their characteristics, have met the adequacy criteria of the DGRV 3913 (04.12.2007). Additionally, these patients are subject to pathological outcomes affecting the central nervous system, especially post-acute outbreak brain vasculopathies, or those resulting from traumatic brain injury, for which continuous specialized medical assistance is not necessary.

In its scientific and education components, the Centro Studi offers refresher courses, guided internships, study days, study retreats, international congress and study groups.

Study in combination with clinical rehabilitation is the primary source of research, development and evolution of the Neurocognitive Theory. In addition, individual and group study investigate patient pathological problems, formulate new hypotheses, and continuously and rigorously verify these hypotheses through the design of new rehabilitation exercises and new Sussidi. Sussidi is a term designed by Prof. Perfetti exclusively to objects that are studied and crafted to help the therapist in the neurocognitive exercise during the therapy session.

The Neurocognitive Reasoning follows the structure of the Neurocognitive Rehabilitative Records. Patient observation leads to the identification of their Profile. The Profile, thus, allows the therapist to choose the pathological actions to be modified, which in turn allows design of the most suitable exercises, their implementation, and final evaluation of results.
